First, I must fully disclose my position on abortion so that you know where I stand on the issue. I am one hundred percent completely against them for any reason and I believe that as Christians, we should hold the same to be true based on the evidence herein.
1. Alan Keyes once said "Those who disagree with me on abortion can be perfectly decent, moral human beings. I will respect their moral conclusions just as I respect the moral conclusions of the Founders; but I will fight the evil they tolerate, just as I would have fought the evil tolerated by our Founders [slavery]. If this ruffles some feathers, you'll have to excuse me, because the need to stand for American principles on Declaration issues is the lesson I draw from the most important events in American history, including the history of my own ancestors. I will stand or fall with that lesson, because nothing in our public life is more important than rejecting the principle that one human being--whether it be a mother or slave-owner-- has the right to treat another human life as property."
This quote vehemently reflects the belief that those who are pro-choice believe that a child, while inhabiting the mother's womb, is said "property" of that mother. This presumption of ownership is inconsistent with what we know about life in general, because we do not even own the bodies we inhabit. This may sound like a stretch, but let us look at some of the validations of this argument:
-we did not create ourselves, therefore we can not own ourselves
-the ones who created us (parents) did not create themselves, therefore they can not own us
-once a child is born, we can not truly own them because they can be taken away from us, signaling circumstantial ownership based on conditional treatment (e.g. abuse, neglect, etc.)
-children have the ability to legally divorce their parents under certain circumstances
-children become independent of their parents at age 18
So this takes away the property argument, now let's look at the "choice" and a woman's right to "privacy."
2. From the moment of conception, a human body is being designed and built based on the combined DNA of the mother and father. While this process relies on the body of the mother to fulfill this task by feeding and maintaining a suitable environment for growth, the new body is an independent body being designed with the purpose of being an independent creation. All too often we hear "you can't tell me what to do with my body" from the pro-choice crowd. This is true; we can't tell you what to do with your body, yet at the same time there should be equal protection for what you do to that child's body since there are not one, but two bodies affected by the choices made.
This presumption of "choice" then falls flat on its face since it is not a choice you are making just about your own body, but also an independent body. And if this presumption of "choice" were to be seriously upheld, then it would validate infanticide after delivery since a child can not survive on its own without someone feeding and providing for it. The mother could choose not to care for the child and let it die, which would be a crime under current law. For the same reason, choice holds no validation as an argument for the abortion of a child in the womb.
3. Knowingly allowing the baby's life to end by intent or neglect is murder. By ending the life of a child, a person is causing it death and as the person that takes this action, that makes them a murderer. This may sound harsh, yet it is true since the infant is alive and growing when a person, with intent, takes its life away.
Scott Rae, a Christian philosopher, outlined the following based on Biblical reasons for considering abortion murder:
1. God attributes the same characteristics to the unborn as to an adult person.
2. Therefore God considers the unborn a person.
3. Abortion is killing an innocent person.
4. Killing innocent persons violates the Fifth Commandment.
To take it a step further, the Bible as a whole discusses the importance of humanity and the amount of respect we should have for one another. A child in the womb is to be considered the epitome of loving a neighbor as thyself, an experience only given to women and a truly remarkable ability to be adored by men.
4. There are many who agree with these arguments so far as to be against abortion as a form of birth control, yet when it comes to issues concerning rape, incest, child deformity, and even the health of the mother, they quietly condone abortion. While I can attest to having grappled with and thoroughly thought through these conditional reasons for an abortion, I have come to the conclusion that while these acts and instances are troublesome to the heart, the infant itself is an innocent and deserves the opportunity of life that God has given it. Children are not a punishment in any conceivable circumstance, they are and always will be a blessing.
As you can see from these arguments, pro-lifers hold life as sacred are not going after the abortion issue because they don't care about women or their rights. They simply rely on God and Scripture as a way to live our lives and to protect those who can not protect themselves. For those who celebrate a woman's right to chose and the pro-choice agenda, they should realize that as a result, they are celebrating death. What they should be celebrating is the fact that their mothers didn't partake in the "choice" they vigorously protect and celebrate.

It is also very important to understand that most "unwanted" pregnancies are 100 percent avoidable in the first place. For those that have trouble understanding this, it requires that they go back to the "basics" of The Old Testament and refresh themselves with what is right and what is wrong.
In the particular cases where an unwanted pregnancy happens against one's will, I feel as though the child should be viewed as a special gift from God. To clarify, "The Child", not the act, is a gift from God.

These acts are troublesome to the heart? I believe that being raped is much more than troublesome to the heart!!! It is easy to sit on the couch taking the stance of "every child is a blessing". But you are not that woman. You are actually not any woman. If a woman has to endure ten months of growing a child that was disgustingly put into her in the worst type of way, to have it and raise it without a choice in the matter, I am appalled at what the world has come to.
First, I ask that you please take me at my word that I am in no way insensitive with the issue of rape and the consequences that can come from it. Second, I object to the notion that being a man refuses me the right to an opinion on the subject. Men and women both have the ability to discern right from wrong while taking in all the implications, no matter how awful they are. Third, a woman isn't obligated to care for the child indefinitely after birth. She has the right to give the child up for adoption or to raise it as her own.
Because this is such an emotional subject and passions do have the tendency to favor one side of the argument over the other, I believe emotions can also sacrifice reason in the process. If we look at rape objectively we see that a terrible act has been committed for which there should be punishment for the offender. But let me ask a question; should the rapist be put to death? His sin, as great as it was, left the woman alive and death wasn't brought into the situation. It isn't until the mother aborts the child that actual death occurs. So which sin is worse, rape or murder? For a woman who survives a rape, can, in the end becomes worse than the rapist by becoming a murderer of an innocent child.
These are very tough concepts and emotional as well. This all goes back to the Christian worldview that we live in a fallen world where bad things are always happening. This is what gives us the Hope that we have in Jesus that he will forgive us our sins and help us to forgive those who trespass against us! There is no healing in hatred and anger, but there is in forgiveness and love.
I agree with Anonymous (totally)
Also "should the rapist be put to death"? YES YES YES
If your daughter was raped and became pregnant, I think your view on this would be 100% different.
You have too much time on your hands -- get a real job!!!
I agree with much of what you are saying, except this one blurb:
So which sin is worse, rape or murder? For a woman who survives a rape, can, in the end becomes worse than the rapist by becoming a murderer of an innocent child.
In God's eyes, sin is sin. There is no single type of sin that is any "worse" than another. We as sinners, are saved by God's grace. Abortion is evil. It is against God's plans for humankind. BUT, since we are saved by God's grace, there is hope for all for ANY sin we have committed or will commit in the future. Its not a free pass by any means, but accepting Christ as your Lord and Savior is what will save you. As long as you have accepted this free gift, on judgement day God will not care about our good deeds. He will not care about our transgressions that have already been forgiven. PAID IN FULL!!
A very devisive issue indeed. In fact one for which many people claim Christians are judgemental and even dangerous. A sin is a sin is a sin, whether it is a lie or murder. The fact of the matter is, Jesus died for all sins including abortion. Who determines a scale for severity of sin? MAN not God, which it totally wrong. Jesus said, I did not come into the world to condemn the world but to save it. If Jesus didn't come to condemn and judge why do we? Let's be very careful as Christians that we give the story of the Gospel (Good News) and look to the finisher of our faith Jesus. We all should be like sheep dogs herding the lost sheep to our Shepherd Jesus, not for condemnation but for the LOVE he showed when he died on the cross for the forgiveness of all sins. Please take no offense, i am not condemning you just pointing out what I believe the bible says.

Brian, I understand where you are coming from. Sometimes semantics are everything.
In this case, I think we might want to look at the old saying that two wrongs don't make a right. Just because something terrible has happened, it's best not to continue the downward slope with another wrong.
I have seen a similar instance in my life. Unfortunately, when my mother passed away, my father went into a downward slope and continued the pain and the wrong by falling deeper into alcoholism and letting depression run his life.
This is an example where something terrible occurred. A decision was made that added additional pain and suffering for years to come, and spread it amongst other people.
Brian, it is a good thing that you are spending time with this subject, and spending time with this blog. God bless you, for good deeds ARE recognized at the end of life.
Jesus didn't come into the world to condemn and judge mankind, but let us not forget that there will be a time when God does sit in judgement of us all. One thing Jesus did condemn and judge throughout his lifetime was sin. Just as the rapist will be judged one day for the violation of the woman of whom he raped, the women will likewise be judged for the child she chose to kill. Salvation can be found in Christ, but it MUST be sought...
Keep up the blog Brian. You never know when a mustard seed will be planted...
M Boniface says, "Just as the rapist will be judged one day for the violation of the woman of whom he raped, the women will likewise be judged for the child she chose to kill." If the killer or rapist accepts Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour there is therefore now no condemnation for those people.
Romans 8
1Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus,[a] 2because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set me free from the law of sin and death. 3For what the law was powerless to do in that it was weakened by the sinful nature,[b] God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful man to be a sin offering.

Brian,
Please do continue! This is a great venue for discussing interpretations and forces me to get into the bible.
